NotesScribe and location are unknown. This manuscript is a copy of the Irish translation, completed by Cormac Mac Duinnshléibhe around the year 1482 of the Medical Treatise entitled Lilium Medicinae written by the French physician Berrnard de Gordon (1283-1308). The Academy possesses a further four (later?) copies at RIA MS 24 P 14, RIA MS 3 C 22, RIA MS 23 G 14 and RIA MS 3 C 19. The British Library manuscript Egerton 89 is also a copy. Pp. 139 (+ 3 unfoliated flyleaves at the beginning and 3 at the end). Small plain initials in brown, headings in bold capitals (indented) as at p.7a infra and p.9. Contains holes present in the skin of the animal before death as at pp. 9 and 10 and pp. 21 and 22. There are tears as at pp.1 and 2. Vellum is faded as at p.1 and p.7. The manuscript has fallen victim to the bookbinder's guillotine with no loss of words as at pp. 29 and 30 and pp.31 and 32 and unfortunately with obvious loss of words as at pp.35 and 36 and pp. 41 and 42. There is only a small piece remaining of p.138 which is at the end of the manuscript.

DescriptionRIA MS 23 E 24 is a Gaelic manuscript, possibly from the 15th century of the medical treatise Lilium Medicinae 'Lily of Medicine' written by the French physician Berrnard de Gordon (1283-1308) and translated into Irish by Cormac Mac Duinnshléibhe. Location and scribe are unknown. It is written on vellum and halfbound in mottled boards. Other (possibly later) copies of this medical treatise are in the Academy. BL Egerton 89 is also a copy of this medical treatise, written in Irish and dated 1482 from County Clare, it contains an inscription, also in Irish stating that Earl Garrett [Gerald] bought the book in 1500 (f.192v).
