Foras Feasa ar Éirinn.

18th and 19th cent. Paper. 29.5×19 cms. Pp. 2 (title-page with verso  blank)+14 (only p. 1 numbered)+247 (pp. 15-261)+1 (verso of leaf glued to back of p. 261)+3 (blank)+20 (pp. 263-82)+8 (numbered 59-66) +4. Three binder's leaves at beginning (foll. by two torn out) and two at end. Lower outer corners of pp. 15-24 repaired; text restored on pp. 16-17, 19-20, but not on others. P. 152 blank except for number and 'Forus Feasa' (twice) at top. Most of manuscript written about 1740 (p. 151 m). Title-page and pp. 1-[14], 25-6, written by Patruicc Ua Loingseadh in Dublin in 1817 (see title-page), who supplied defects in this manuscript from MS 2 in this collection (see below). Bound in leather with gilt tooling on spine. 'KEATING'S IRELAND' in gold lettering on patch of red leather glued to spine.

Words ‘Carrick on Suir’ on outside front cover and ‘Stair ag Forus Feasa air Caraicc[. . .?] na Suiradh’ on outside back cover, both in ink. Pencil-note on verso of third leaf at beginning: ‘This is a very good copy of Doctor Keatings History of Ireland. It is in a very legible hand with few contractions and even these are easily decyphered. It is in good preservation and taken all together I have seen few so good copies. E. Ó Reilly’. Some pencil-notes in margins of a few pages near beginning of text; also scribbling in pencil near end and no. ‘44’ in pencil on last leaf but one. Calculation ‘1755/38/117’ on p. 21; some scribbling on pp. 263, 268-9.
