The Glucksman
The Return of the Exiles
In Filleadh na nDeoraithe / The Return of the Exiles two Irish language manuscripts are brought together in the Sisk Gallery for the first time since the 15th century: The Book of Lismore (MS 204, UCC Library) and Rennes MS 598 (Bibliothèque des Champs Libres). These manuscripts are associated with Kilbrittain and Kilcrea, Co. Cork, respectively.
Each manuscript contains important anthologies of Gaelic literature, both native works and texts in translation. The two books are symbols of the professional scholarship widely practised in Ireland in the late middle ages.
