ProvenanceThis manuscript was part of the manuscript collection belonging to Sir Edward Lhuyd (1660-1709) and was likely collected during a tour which he made to Ireland in the year 1700; Sir Thomas Sebright purchased some of Lhuyd's collection after his death in 1709; Sir John Sebright acquired them then and was recorded to have them in his possession in 1765; around 1782 Edmund Burke encouraged Sebright to send the manuscripts to Dublin to be examined; Sebright presented them to Trinity College Dublin 1786.

NotesBy 1688, the leaves of this fragment were missing from the Book of Lecan. The leaves resurfaced and were examined and identified by Eugene O’Curry.

DescriptionA fragment of nine leaves which went missing from the Book of Lecan. Some of the texts on them include: Lebor Bretnach; Dialogue of Colum Cille with a youth at Carric Eolairc; Tecosca Cormaic; Senbríathra Fíathail; Trecheng breth Féne, or Triads of Ireland; and [Immacallam in dá thúarad, or Dialogue of the Two Sages.

Contents of TCD 1319/2/6 (fragment), as described in the Catalogue of Irish Manuscripts in the Royal Irish Academy, pp. 1575-6 (ff. 142-150, the T.C.D. leaves).

The text is a composite one, incorporating two recensions of the original (Van Hamel's L¹ and L² versions). There is a gap, owing to the loss of one folio, after fo. 141, but this gap can be filled by the copy in BB Facs. 203 ff. The text ends imperfect on 145 r°a (= TCD, H 2 17, p. 178 a). Ed. A. G.
