MEDICAL APHORISMS
15th or 16th cent. Vellum. 21–22 × 15–15.5cm. Ff. 8, numbered in pencil. No scribal signature; some corrections to text (occasionally over erasures) supplied in another hand.
Unbound; housed in paper folder marked ‘Grille’ and ‘1313’ (in pencil) on front cover; held by remains of stitching, which seemes to have preceded a tacketing and to have been followed by a binding on cords; stitch-holes. Remains of impression of Lhuyd's seal, and numbers ‘103’, ‘1313’ (in pencil) and ‘H. 2. 12 / [13, cancelled] 14 [repeated]’ on f. 1r, upper margin.
Collation: i12 wants 3, 5, 8 and 10 with loss of text where defective. Single column, ruled in dry point, 27–34 lines; faint traces of prick marks for columns discernible in upper and lower margins of some leaves (e.g. ff. 1, 7–8). Vellum defective in ff. 1–2; lower outer corner of f. 7 a separate piece of vellum stitched on before writing, bearing parts of 10 lines on either side. Slight staining throughout, with heavy staining on f. 6 obscuring some of text in upper inner corner, particularly on verso; decay in lower inner edge of f. 3 and in lower inner corners of ff. 5–6. Initials, Latin text and ceann fo eite generally coloured yellow (turned green in places and tinting several lines) on ff. 1–8r, with no colouring executed after f. 8r23. Final line of f. 7r written below column in lower margin and framed underneath by border line. Manuscript described in Colker, Cat. 2, p. 1240.

Breaks off (in bk 2.32) with f. 8 Plerumque omnes maile habentes secundum prinncipia bene reficientes ⁊ nihil adentes. Aphorisms numbered in outer margin in 16th cent. hand in two groups, viz. 1–13 (f. 6), [17]–25 (f. 7r), and 1–29, 201 [sic], 202, [sic], 23 (ff. 7v1–8vz). Corresponds to NLI G 8, pp. 29.1–32.4, 33.5–39.20 except that bk 2.18 is in sequence in that MS.
