Summary particulars
17th cent. Paper. Ff. 355 (continuous foliation ‘1-357’ whereby f. 154 follows immediately after f. 151, no lacuna). Dimensions, ff. 1-86 c. (height) 187 × (width) 155 mm; ff. 87 to end, c. 187 × (variable) 145-150 mm, respectively). Cover of pasteboard and vellum. The manuscript consists of two formerly separate parts, viz. (i) ff. 2-106 (gatherings 1-10, sizes vary), and (ii) ff. 107 to end (11-31, homogeneous senions). Almost entirely in the hand of Míchél Ó Cléirigh with scribal signatures occurring in colophons at ff. 73vm 102v, 113v, 167r etc. Dates include 1627 (f. 83v), 1629 (f. 128ret passim), 1631 (f. 101r), 1635 (f. 97v), 1641 (f. 6r); locations mentioned Droichet Átha (f. 83v), Tigh Molaga (f. 128r), Corcaigh (ff. 128r), and Drobhaois (ff. 82v, 168r, 226r etc.). Other hands I identify by reference to other sources as responsible for occasional interventions (Irish and/or roman script) as follows: (1) relief hand that wrote most of a page at f. 148v5 (to end) is that of Domhnall Ó Duinnín, scribe of RIA A iv 1 (968) (Lives of Saints, cf. RIA Cat. p. 2781) (the same is mentioned here as owner of vellum at ff. 128r, 129v); (2) Fr Hugh Ward d. 1635 (e.g. ff. 12r, 15r (right and left margins), 23r m. (8 ll.), 30v m. (8 ll.), 61v (heading) (last instance of hand); (3) Fr John Colgan d. 1658 (f. 106v, 256r right margin, 356r).
